TRAVELS IN KAUAI
Day 1 – Transit Sandpoint ID, USA to Lihue, Kaua’i, Hawaii, USA.
Day 2 – Kaua’i: My new favorite place. On the same day that other beaches were packed, I discovered an empty reef-protected beach with a mountain backdrop. Not saying where.
Study in shadows, same place. I love a beach where I can sit in the shade.
Where the forest meets the beach. Same place. According to the lifeguard, who had no one to watch, you can camp here for an unlimited time, just not on Thursdays. Wish I had a tent.
I explored 5 beaches today and at 3 of them, it started to rain just as I arrived. But then the sun came out…
Day 3: Kaua’i: Photos cannot describe the majesty of Waimea Canyon.
It’s hard to sense the scale, but that waterfall drops about a thousand feet.
Not far away…Water in the desert.
Day 4: Kaua’i: How can you not explore a place called Shipwreck Beach? Now I know why.
The Spouting Horn!
My 250-mile road trip on Kaua’i around the portion of the perimeter that’s possible to drive took me from hot, dry desert-like landscape to temperate dripping-wet rain forests; from sea level beaches with crystal-clear water to 4,120 foot mountains shrouded in clouds. It rained many times a day, and then the sun came out. This is a popular destination, but I was able to find quiet enclaves and real Kaua’i, real Aloha.
